1 jar (10 oz) maraschino cherries
1 package 18 1/2 oz devil's food cake mix WITHOUT pudding in the mix
1 cup (2 sticks) butter, melted
1 egg
1/2 teaspoon almond extract
1 1/2 cups semisweet chocolate chips
3/4 cup sweetened condensed milk (such as eagle brand)
1/2 cup chopped pecans
Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Lightly grease 13x9 baking pan. Drain the cherries, reserving 2 tablespoons of the juice. Cut cherries into quarters.
Combine cake mix, butter, egg and almond extract in large bowl; mix well. (Batter will be very thick) Spread batter in prepared pan. Lightly press cherries into batter.
Combine chocolate chips and sweetened condensed milk in small saucepan. Cook over low heat, stirring constantly, until chocolate melts. Stir in reserved cherry juice. Spread chocolate mixture over the cherries in pan; sprinkle with pecans.
Bake 35 minutes or until almost set in center. Cool completely in pan on wire rack. Cut into bars when cool.
